All the Comp boys & girls are scheduled to participate in four  gymnastics meets for this season.   Clubs from around the lower mainland and across the province will be invited to attend each club’s event.  Gymnasts who are registered in similar programs (to our Interclub / comp  programs) will be in attendance. Gymnasts attend 1 session for @ 4 hrs TBD  by the meet and final schedule that will be communicated to families once the meet schedule is finalized.  Gymnasts are expected to show up for meets at least 15 min before the  warm up start time and have hair combed back and secured off face / no jewellery / wearing Comp bodysuit and should have a water bottle and small snack. Please note that gymnasts need to stay with their coach and team during competition and parents are not allowed on the competition floor or equipment. Please keep young siblings off all gymnastics equipment.

Children will perform routines on the apparatus and will be evaluated by adjudicators. Each child receives a certificate for his or her performance.  The men’s events are vault, pommels, rings, high bar, parallel bars, and floor.  The women’s events are vault, uneven bars, beam and floor.  At the end of the meet each child is called up to the podium to receive his or her award.

Gymnasts will perform at meets in one of the following categories.  It will be up to the coaches to decide which category is best for their athletes to perform at.  Levels may change throughout the season, however, they must fit the following guidelines for each category.

Performance

¨ For athletes who are 6 years and up

¨ Athletes perform routines and receive a certificate with feedback from the meet adjudicators for each event

¨ All athletes are awarded a medal for their performances

BIGC has a limited bursary program depending on funds available.  As a general rule, only one bursary is awarded to a competative family per school year and one bursary each for Fall, Winter and Spring seasons is awarded.

There is also some bursary money available through KidSport.  This fund is a cheritable arm of SportBC designed to remove financial obsticles that prevent some children from participating in sport.  Please visit www.kidsportcanada.ca for more info.

Our club is thrilled to support youth who wish to contribute to the community and aspire to gain gymnastics coaching skills with our C.I.T. program.  The C.I.T. program provides teens with opportunities to act as mentors to younger gymnasts and allows for a smaller coach-to-gymnast ratio in the gym.  C.I.T.s must be at least 12 yrs old and have taken a local "Coaches in Training" course.  All C.I.T.s are under supervision of a certified coach while in the gym and are paid a modest annual honorarium for their work.  Once a C.I.T. reaches 15 yrs old, they are eligible to take their Level 1 Coaching Certification.  Be sure to check with your High School Counsellor about getting credit for this program for graduation.

We are hoping to run a C.I.T course on TBA
